Physical and Health Education
Physical and Health Education Grade 9, Open (PPL1O)
This course equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices now and lead healthy, active lives in the future. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities, students develop knowledge and skills related to movement competence and personal fitness that provide a foundation for active living. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by, and affects, the world around them. Students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.
Prerequisite: None
Over the course of the year students will be given an opportunity to participate in the following invasion games such as: soccer, basketball, flag football, flag rugby, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee and floor hockey. Net/wall games include: badminton, volleyball, and pickleball. Target games include: bocce. Striking/fielding games include: softball and cricket. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in games of low organization, personal fitness training, yoga and dance. Health topics include healthy relationships and CPR.
Health and activity unit assignments, peer and self-evaluation and a summative assignment are used for assessment purposes.

This course enables students to further develop the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices now and lead healthy, active lives in the future. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities, students develop knowledge and skills related to movement competence and personal fitness that provide a foundation for active living. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by, and affects, the world around them. Students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.

Health topics include nutrition and mental health literacy.

Communications Technology
Communications Technology Grade 10, Open (TGJ2O) (an option in Grade 10)
This course introduces students to communications technology from a media perspective. Students will work in the areas of TV/video and movie production, radio and audio production, print and graphic communications, photography, and interactive new media and animation. Student projects may include computer-based activities such as creating videos, editing photos, working with audio, cartooning, developing animations, and designing web pages. Students will also develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to communications technology, and will explore secondary and post-secondary education and training pathways and career opportunities in the various communications technology fields.
