Athletics Program

The Storm Athletics program is an important part of Middle and Senior School life. A healthy body/mind balance is one of The York School’s core values across curricular and co-curricular experience.

The Middle and Senior School Athletics Program focuses on providing exposure to a wide variety of sports at all levels. The goal is to develop a lifelong passion for sport and healthy, active living. Our student-athletes have the opportunity to try out for Interscholastic Teams or join recreational programs.

The Athletics Department is an active participant in The Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA and CAIS), a broad and extensive school sport program for students in Grades 3 to 12. In all, 18 sports, 52 leagues and teams are involved throughout the school year.

The York Storm

In September 2025, The York School introduced a new name for the school’s teams, as well as a new mascot. The team name, The York Storm, unites the elements of the school’s four spirit houses: air, water, earth and fire. It also symbolizes the strength, passion, confidence and determination of our student-athletes.

Our mascot is a peregrine falcon named Bolt. Peregrine falcons are the fastest members of the animal kingdom, with a diving speed of over 300 km/h.
