Humanities

Humanities Grade 7

The Grade 7 Humanities course encompasses both history and geography. In History, we focus on the development of Canada from New France to British North America and the War of 1812. Students will take part in dramatizations, learn how to analyze primary and secondary sources, and explore important historical events from a variety of perspectives. In Geography, we focus on physical geography, mapping, research skills, our changing environments, and a culminating product on a global issue of concern using an interdisciplinary approach with English.

Humanities Grade 8

In the Grade 8 Humanities course, students explore individuals’ abilities to make a difference in the world. We will explore Canadian history from 1830 - 1890, demography, overcoming political challenges, financial literacy, and global climate change. Although these events take place across different times and places, they all explore our theme of great change and the various ways change can happen. Concepts covered include economic and political systems, quality of life, development, mapping, human rights, and the environment.
