Drama

Drama Grade 7

The Grade 7 Drama curriculum is intended to help students to develop an understanding and appreciation of drama, as well as the ability to create works using the forms, concepts, elements, and conventions of the discipline. Through exploring drama, students will develop an understanding of the art form, themselves, and others, and will learn about the lives of people in different times, places, and cultures. They will also develop practical artistic skills, critical analysis skills, and a variety of communication skills that will enable them to clarify and articulate their own point of view.

Drama Grade 8 

The Grade 8 Drama curriculum is intended to help students to develop and/or extend their understanding and appreciation of drama. Students will expand their thinking, solve problems, and develop their ability to express ideas and feelings through different aspects of drama. They will explore dramatic situations episodically and assume different roles using various dramatic conventions. As students “live through” experiences of others in imagined situations, they learn to understand a variety of points of view and motives and to empathise with others. This will help students deepen their understanding of humanity and issues of equity and social justice. Students will also learn to use language effectively to communicate a character’s emotional state and point of view. 

Music 

Music Grade 7 (Instrumental)

Music in Grade 7 gives students access to experiences that allow for the development of thinking, intuition, technical skills, communication, and the ability to appreciate diverse perspectives. Engagement with music from around the world allows students to understand the significance of music as a form of universal cultural expression. Through rehearsal and performance, students develop their understanding of how the act of making music is a significant and essential aspect of human expression and communication. In Grade 7, students develop an understanding of modern recording technology to document the practical application of music knowledge and to facilitate reflection on their performances. They analyze music in their lives and the ways in which music has changed in response to a variety of historical, cultural, and other influences.

Music Grade 8 (Instrumental)

Music in Grade 8 builds upon the music and technology learning of the previous year to give students access to musical opportunities that allow for critical thinking, practical application, communication, and expression. Through the study of a variety of repertoire from the local community and from around the world, students learn to understand the significance of music to the cultures of the world. Through performance and recording, students develop their understanding of how the act of making music can add depth and context to written and visual communication. In Grade 8, students perform in a variety of ensembles and use musical knowledge, musicianship, and creative abilities to create musical works that enhance the communication of particular emotions and sentiments.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts Grade 7

Students in Grade 7 will examine and further develop their artistic understanding and techniques. They will explore a variety of media to enhance their skills in drawing, painting, printmaking and digital design. Students will continue to build their knowledge of the elements and principles of design throughout this course and apply their understanding through independent inquiry, exploration and reflection. Students will continue to develop their awareness of art history and theory through research and reflection of artists, artistic movements, and international cultural contexts. Students will also analyse art in their daily lives and the ways that it can influence ideas, cultures, and inspire others.
